About Us
We have Options.
Frankly, we've made the world sick, given it far worse than a mere cold (or, in this case, a flu and fever). And the thing is, humanity had it good for a really long time. We were given a glorious planet to call our own, to oversee as kings and queens, but we abused the planet's resources and its creatures. Now it's time to give up some of our privileges, time to accept our responsibility for the environment, a natural world that could continue to be very good for us—if only we would be good to it.
The changes we make will entail sacrifices, but at Earth Clinic Planet we want to concentrate on how being Green is altogether good for us, good for our health, productive of our happiness, and more often than not good for our wealth as well.
Why Do It?
We truly believe that individual efforts, brought together under a common effort for the good of all, will lead us out of the darkness beneath this cloud of greenhouse gases and into a sustainable future. On the other hand, we expect that whiz-bang technological solutions to today's environmental problems will do no more than they have ever done—delay the inevitable payment of those wages we owe to the sin of gluttony.
Human beings have spoken of our collective role as Environmental Stewards, but we have never approached a level of responsible action that would merit the title. We have taken from the planet, and we have taken more, and that has been the whole sum and total of the story so far.
Columbus crossed the ocean blue for gold and silver, we headed West as young men and women for land and yet more gold, we conquered the seas to consume all its whales and fish, and now we fight across the globe to protect, corner and control the market for oil. As far as stewardship goes – the proper use of the land and seas – we've spent millennia practicing how to use it but have a good deal yet to learn about how to act proper.
All of that is about to change. We're waking up, seeing the mistakes of our past and looking to make them right. Global Warming, extreme weather changes, the ongoing Third Great Extinction event, and more are human problems and our responsibility. There are changes we need to make to remedy what ails this planet, but even if the world didn't need these changes, we should do them because CFLs will save us money, and safer cleaning products will eliminate thousands of asthma cases, and because the forests we save will offer the sort of therapy our drug- and ADHD-puzzled children most need.
We can Go Deeper.
Although the fates of thousands of species hang in the balance, only humanity is equipped to see the immediate perils we have brought to visit our planet, and only in the planet's women and men can the world find reason to hope for a solution. Earth Clinic Planet wants the entire world to accept the truth of that fact and to proudly take up the challenge of saving the planet from ourselves, for ourselves, and for a planet we'd like to call home.
Who We Are
We should come right out and be honest here—we're tried to do this before, create a website where all of our environmental energies, our excitement and real concern for the health of our Earth itself could spill out into the world and draw a crowd of people like us together, united in the work, joined in the excitement of giving back to the world that has given us all it's got. Unfortunately, we didn't do so well. In fact, we forgot something.
We forgot who we were.
Earth Clinic has always been about its community; from the very start we were all and nothing more than the ideas you gave us to build on ACV and you have been at the very heart and core of everything that came after. We want you to be here with us now, again. Doesn't matter that maybe you never visited the original EarthClinic.com (although there's nothing stopping you now!), or if you were with us from the start, Earth Clinic Planet is first and foremost a community of like-minded individuals banding together to create hope and beauty in a world that has never before lacked for either but now like energy, animal and plant species, ozone, fresh air, and wild spaces – all those most essential things – we seem to find them in ever shorter supply.
Earth Clinic Planet believes the Green Movement has to be a popular revolution. It is and must continue to be the work of individuals. Our individual lives and well-being are at stake, our collective individual actions at fault.
Earth Clinic Planet is the spot to find your own particular place in the movement, the hub from which greener paths radiate. This is your place to discover and share the actions, on the smallest and largest scales you can imagine, that will teach us all to live in the world instead of on top of it. It's our world – not the birthright of nations and corporations – and we know how to treat it right.
Help us blaze those paths to a greener future, and join us in this march toward a sustainable tomorrow.
This is who we are:
Deirdre Layne
Successful in her roles as healer and businesswoman, Deirdre Layne is an entrepreneur who began her career as a practitioner of energy healing, an ancient practice that uses various techniques to heal interconnected physical, emotional, and spiritual illnesses and imbalances. Beginning her career in Los Angeles, California, she maintains a healing practice in Atlanta, Georgia, although the Earth Clinic communities are now her primary focus.
Deirdre (pronounced Dear-dree) acquired a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Mount Holyoke College. She then studied energy healing for nine years under the tutelage of internationally acclaimed healer and author, Rosalyn L. Bruyere. Deirdre has also mentored and studied under renowned healers Helen Yamada of Asheville, NC and Susan Brown of Los Angeles, continually since 1989.
This background in practical and experimental work provided Deirdre with insight into the overall state of human health in modern society and led to her creation of EarthClinic.com, one of the Top 10 health and healing sites, where she could share her humble body of knowledge and enhance it with a global community of inherited wisdom about health and illness.
In her clinical practice, Deirdre strove to give her clients a tactile awareness of how a body in harmony strengthens and heals itself, that a profound rippling effect from a person's emotional and spiritual centers maintains an individual's health, or conversely, creates disease. Earth Clinic developed organically from that same desire to help us all to find the knowledge that will make us optimally vital and healthy in the body and mind united.
Earth Clinic Planet is a natural extension of that healing philosophy, an understanding that beyond mind and body there are the larger environments of home, society, local ecosystems, and the planetary environment all of which offer healing and sustenance but must themselves be healthy and in balance to support our own vigor and happiness.
Daniel P. Kray
Deirdre has welcomed assistance from Daniel P. Kray on several recent projects. He calls on three-years experience as a freelance writer and editor, previous completion of a book-length ghostwritten memoir (currently seeking major agency representation), and years of study, interest, and dedication to social and environmental causes.
A graduate of Williams College with a B.A. in both English and Philosophy, Mr. Kray has been the Senior Writer and Editor for several websites in addition to magazine and other original work. It was Dan's previous experience in publishing, research, education (as both teacher and administrator), travel (through six continents), and knowledge of environmental projects, groups, and politics that attracted Deirdre to him as her assistant in this project.
A thru-hiker on Vermont's Long Trail and a composter in his own backyard, Dan has tried out his own environmental philosophies and practices on fields, forests, and farms. He is currently at work on a novel, a messianic environmental vision succeeding Thoreau in equal ratio to Abbey, structured by Joseph Campbell's concept of the Hero yet balanced by pragmatism to create a mythology for this new era in which humanity has corralled and assumed the responsibility for the natural world. It will be the first novel out of a pair or trio.
And You
Who are you? You tell us. Let us know who you are, where you have been, and what you want from this community and for this planet, our Earth. Go on. We're all listening.
